SUMMARY:Invasives Pulls November 2025
DESCRIPTION:In the fall\, the Newton Conservators Invasives Team works to t
reat Japanese knotweed before the stalks die back\, and then moves on to r
emoval of woody invasives such as buckthorn\, burning bush\, honeysuckle\,
barberry\, and multiflora rose\, and vines such as bittersweet and porcel
ain berry.  Come join us and help keep these invaders out! Wear long pant
s tucked into socks\, closed shoes\, and garden gloves. Trash bags will be
provided\; the City will dispose properly as trash\, not as yard waste.

ase form.\n\nSunday\, Nov. 16\, 10am - 12 noon.  We will continue work at
the 30 Wabasso St conservation area - buckthorn removal.   This parcel\,
near Rumford Ave and overlooking Purgatory Cove\, was acquired by the cit
y several years ago and Newton Conservators holds the Conservation Restric
tion on it.  It is a very pretty spot - but buckthorn has started to inva
de.  We will work with a groups from Boston College Outdoor Adventures to
handpull small ones\, weed wrench medium sized\, and cut and paint the la
rger ones. Meet at the parking circle at the end of Forest Grove Rd\, acce
 ssed from Rumford Ave\, in Auburndale.\n\nSunday\, Nov. 23\, 11am - 1pm.
We will work in beautiful Hammond Woods to keep nonnative invasive gloss
y buckthorn and common buckthorn from taking hold.  We will handpull smal
l ones\, weed wrench medium sized\, and cut and paint the larger ones.  W
e will work with a group from Boston College Ecopledge and other volunteer
 s.  Meet on Suffolk Rd (Chestnut Hill) at the path that crosses the MBTA
tracks - we will then cross over the tracks and work in Hammond Woods.  T
he closest house address is 217 Suffolk Rd.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSteady rain will
cancel our sessions.  If in doubt\, contact Katherine Howard at 617 721
2571.  New to our invasives sessions? See our FAQs and complete the Volun
 teer Release form.
