SUMMARY:Nahanton Park BioBlitz
DESCRIPTION:NOTE:  As of Friday\, it appears that the weather will be not
too bad for the Bioblitz - Newton is at the northern edge of the light sho
wer area (which often means just clouds with a few sprinkles). So the BioB
litz is still ON!\n\nAre you interested in learning more about how to iden
tify native plants? Or maybe you are more interested in birds or butterfli
es? Did you ever wonder how many species of plants and animals inhabit New
ton’s Parks and Conservation Areas? Maybe you have developed skills iden
tifying ferns or pollinators and you want to share that knowledge with oth
ers?  Or perhaps you are just curious to learn more about nature in Newto
n?  If this piques your interest\, join us for an upcoming Newton BioBli
tz event! We will spend a few hours surveying plants and animals\, learnin
g\, and posting our observations to iNaturalist. You do not need to be an
experienced naturalist or expert to participate. Families are welcome.\n\n
Learn how to use the iNaturalist app to take pictures for documenting what
lives in Nahanton Park.  Download this free and useful identification ap
p to your phone or tablet beforehand from the Apple App Store for iOS or t
he Google Play Store for Android.  HERE is an interesting article on iNat
uralist from our Fall 2019 Newton Conservators Newsletter.  The iNaturali
st survey of Newton Parks can be found online HERE which includes the foll
owing areas:  Webster Woods\, Cold Spring Park\, Edmands Park\, Flowed Me
adow\, Nahanton Park\, Dolan Pond Conservation Area\, and Kennard Park.
Each of these areas has a significant number of existing iNaturalist obs
ervations.  Any observations done in these areas will automatically be in
cluded in the Newton Survey.\n\nTo Register for this BioBlitz event click
here!  Registration is encouraged but not required.  The leader is Jon
Regosin\, former Deputy Director of MassWildlife.  Keep an eye on this we
 b listing in case of rain.\n\n&nbsp\;
