The Newton Conservators is a volunteer organization. We need your help! Please consider volunteering in one of the following roles:
New ongoing roles!
Assistant Editors
- E-bulletin Assist our e-bulletin editor in creating our occasional e-bulletin. Write summaries of upcoming events and help to edit the e-bulletin.
- Newsletter Work with the newsletter editor to solicit and edit content for the Newton Conservators’ quarterly newsletter.
Biodiversity Survey Volunteer
Assist with biological surveys of Newton’s open spaces and with associated public events.
Conservation Restriction Monitoring Volunteer
Work with experienced Conservators board members to walk Newton’s parks and open spaces that have Conservation Restrictions (CRs) to ensure that the use and management of each site meets the CR’s requirements. Help take photographs, mark on a map where each photograph was taken, and give input to the final written report sent to the City or landowner. CR monitoring is done once a year, usually in the early fall.
Invasive Plant Removal Volunteer
Under the supervision of an experienced board member, work with other volunteers to identify and remove invasive plants from city parks and open spaces to protect biodiversity and native species. Some physical work required, with the usual outdoor risk of ticks and poison ivy – appropriate clothing and precautions advised.
Outreach and Tabling Volunteer
Work with our Outreach Coordinator to involve more people with the Conservators by answering questions and collecting sign-ups in person and by developing materials such as handouts and flyers.
Walks Volunteer
Attend walks and help the walk leader by collecting contact information and answering or capturing questions asked by participants.
