Come help us eradicate this soil-damaging invasive garlic mustard from this gem of a pocket park. We also continue to control the Japanese Knotweed; every year it gets easier. We will also do some nature study, so bring binoculars for observing birds and other creatures that make this vernal pool area home. Wear long pants and garden gloves.

Come help us eradicate this soil-damaging invasive garlic mustard from Dolan Pond Conservation Area. There is quite a bit this year scattered throughout the park due to the spring rains.  We also may continue to control the Japanese Knotweed; every year it gets easier. We’ll also do some general cleanup. Wear long pants and bring garden gloves, sunscreen, water, and hand tools (a garden spade might be helpful). Meet near HP Parking Area on Webster Path near the kiosk.

We will have volunteer forms at the event but ideally you should pre-register with NewtonSERVES.  To register as a volunteer, officially, first go to www.newtonmarec.com and sign in or create an account if you do not already have one. You’ll then be able to choose “Dolan Pond-Invasives Pull” by going to their NewtonSERVES project page to complete the registration: https://newtonma.myrec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=30296
To register as a volunteer, you must be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers under 18 years of age MUST be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under 18 are not required to register but MUST be accompanied by a registered adult volunteer.
As an added bonus, this is a great time to catch sight of some of the colorful migrating birds, such as warblers, passing though Dolan Pond.  There’s a bird walk at Dolan Pond the following Saturday, May 13.

Leader is Ted Kuklinski, 617-763-3470.
