The Newton Conservators Invasives Team tackles garlic mustard, buckthorn, black swallow-wort, bittersweet, japanese knotweed, and other problems in many of Newton’s open spaces. Come join us! The schedule for this month is listed below (dates are listed by month in separate “events”). Help keep these invaders out! Wear long pants tucked into socks, closed shoes, and garden gloves. During August, we will continue to hold early morning sessions to avoid the heat, and schedule for Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 8:30 – 10am.
Aug 1 Sat 8:30-10am. Hemlock Gorge. Meet at Ellis St parking lot
Sunday Aug 2 8:30-10am. Webster Woods. Meet at Warren St entrance
Sunday Aug 8 8:30-10am. Kesseler Conservation Area. Come see the beautiful new boardwalk and bridge over the brook! Park on Bryon Rd near 2 Bryon Rd and cross Lagrange St where the opening in the fence is – that is the access point to Kesseler Conservation area.
Thursday Aug 13 8:30-10am Houghton Garden – Meet at path to MBTA opposite 217 Suffolk Rd.
Saturday Aug 15 8:30-10am Riverside/Pony Truss Trail. Meet at Riverside Park, Recreation Rd, Weston
Sunday Aug 16 8:30-10am. Upper Falls Greenway. Meet at the Greenway kiosk behind the Trader Joe’s
Dates TBD August – we’ll be working with Service Stars camp kids at Cold Spring Park, doing nature activities and invasives – let me know if you’d like to come help with the kids)
Saturday Aug 22 8:30-10am Hammond Pond. Meet at the trail entrance in the parking lot behind the Street shopping Center at corner Hammond Pond and Rte 9.
Sunday Aug 23 8:30-10am. Crystal Lake pocket park on Centre St (opposite 1408 Centre St). Park on Paul St or Locksley Rd.
Thursday Aug 27 8:30-10am. Cold Spring Park. Meet at kiosk at end of Beacon St parking lot.
Saturday Aug 29 8:30-10am. Hemlock Gorge. Meet at Ellis St parking lot.
Sunday Aug 30 8:30-10am. Saw Mill Brook. Meet at Vine St parking lot opposite 5 Hollywood Drive.
