The Newton Conservators Invasives Team tackles garlic mustard, buckthorn, black swallow-wort, bittersweet, japanese knotweed, and other problems in many of Newton’s open spaces. Come join us! The schedule for this month is listed below (dates are listed by month in separate “events”). Help keep these invaders out! Wear long pants tucked into socks, closed shoes, and garden gloves. For September, we will go back to the 9:30am-12 noon meeting time, and keep the Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday schedule, with a couple of Wednesdays added in. (Please note not every Sat/Sun date has a session due to conflicts with walks and community events.) We’ll focus on Black swallow-wort, shrubs, porcelainberry, bittersweet, and knotweed.
Sept 5 Saturday 9:30am-12 noon. Upper Falls Greenway. Meet on the Greenway at the kiosk behind Trader Joe’s.
Sept 6 Sunday 9:30am-12 noon. Heartbreak Hill Park. Meet at the top of the park at corner Manet Rd and Reservoir Drive in Chestnut Hill.
Sept 10 Thursday 9:30am-12 noon. Nahanton Park Woodcock Meadow and Florrie’s Path. Meet at the Nature Center at the park entrance for the canoe rental off of Nahanton St.
Sept 16 Wednesday 9:30am-12 noon. NEW location! Hemlock Gorge Reservation at Cook’s Bridge. Park at the Mills Falls lot next to Cook’s Bridge off Eliot St in Upper Falls.
Sept 17 Thursday 9:30am-12 noon. Heartbreak Hill Park. Meet at the top of the park at corner Manet Rd and Reservoir Drive in Chestnut Hill.
Sept 23 Wednesday 9:30am-12 noon. Webster Woods. Meet at the entrance at the end of Warren St in Newton Center.
Sept 24 Thursday 9:30am-12 noon. NEW location! Oak Hill river trails. Meet at the end of Sawmill Brook Parkway in Oak Hill Park. Closest GPS address is 781 Sawmill Brook Parkway.
Sept 26 Saturday 9:30am-12 noon. City Hall ponds – porcelain berry and shrubs. Meet at the circle in front of City Hall.
