Privet (Ligustrum spp)

Identification

Another escapee from residential hedges, dispersed by seed-eating birds.   Leaves are small and leathery, opposite on the stem, elliptical to oval.  Flowers are small white racemes in June.

Characteristics

Similar to burning bush and honeysuckle, shrubs grow large in unattended areas and shade and crowd out other species.

Control

Similar to burning bush and honeysuckle, pull, dig, and weed wrench ®.
