March is the time for Woodcock mating. The “Sky Dance” performed by males is done under cover of darkness. The “Woodcock Meadow” in Nahanton Park is a good location to look for this sign of spring.
The meadow is adjacent to the overflow parking lot located about 400 feet east of the Charles River on Nahanton Street. It can also be reached by a trail from the Nature Center parking lot.
Join Judy Hepburn and the Brookline Bird Club to look for woodcocks on March 20th.
The Newton Conservators has led efforts to restore the Woodcock Meadow in the park.
