Crystal Lake Cyanobacteria Closure Has Ended

Crystal Lake was closed on August 6th to all uses, including swimming, wading, boating, and fishing, due to an outbreak of dangerous cyanobacteria.

On August 21st, Mayor Fuller announced that tests done on August 19th showed that cyanobacteria were no longer at a dangerous level, and that the lake was again open for public use:

“While the City of Newton Parks, Recreation and Culture swimming program with lifeguards and access to the bathhouse has concluded for the season, visitors are free to resume recreational enjoyment of the lake and surrounding park spaces.”
