If you have been inspired to incorporate more native plants in your own garden, don’t miss the Native Plant Pop-up Sale at the Cold Spring Park Farmers’ Market on Tuesday, September 15! A number of Massachusetts native plant vendors will have booths with some of your favorite native plants for sale! It’s a fantastic opportunity to obtain native plants from reputable vendors for planting this summer. Look for the Newton Conservators Green tent along with the native plant farms in a special section of the Newton Farmer’s Market. Stop by and say hello. Don’t miss this unique group of native plant suppliers – perhaps the best chance this Fall to improve your garden by growing native! And of course you can pick up some fresh veggies and other goodies from the usual farmers market vendors! This event is cosponsored by Grow Native Massachusetts, the Newton Community Pollinator Project and other local environmental organizations.
Grow Native Massachusetts has recruited a number of farms to participate in the Newton Farmers Market Pop Up. Here is their event web page. At this market, we will be joined by Checkerspot Farm, Butterfly Effect Farm, Hilltop Natives, Red Trillium Gardens, BOLD Meadows, and Tree Talk Natives, all small businesses who specialize in sustainably-grown native plants. They start much of their stock from seed (often local ecotype), and curate their inventory with an eye toward species of particular value to pollinators, caterpillars, and other threatened wildlife. All of them are passionate advocates for native plants and creating habitat in our gardens.

Located on an old farmstead, this small nursery offers around 80 species of seed grown plants, primarily wildflowers and grasses. Pot sizes range from 2” to ¾ gal. Check out their fun wildflower concert t-shirts.
