Newton Special Election: March 16
There will be a special municipal election on March 16th to fill currently vacant City Councilor positions – Ward 1 at-large, and Ward 2 at-large.
Voting by Mail
The deadline to apply for an Early mail-in ballot is Wednesday, March 10, a week before the election. This is the deadline established by the Secretary of State for Early mail-in ballots.

The deadline to return your Vote By Mail Ballot is no later than the close of polls on Election Day (March 16th, 8:00 PM)
Return your ballot by depositing it in one of the Drop Boxes at City Hall or mail it to City Clerk/Elections at 1000 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton MA 02459
In-Person Early Voting
According to the Election Commission, the state did not approve Early in-person voting but there will be a week of in-person absentee voting at City Hall from Monday, March 8 through Friday, March 12, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Absentee Ballots
Absentee ballots will be available ahead of the March 16 election, so if you have any family members or friends who will be away in college or traveling, please remind them to apply for an absentee ballot.

If you choose to vote in person on Election Day, double-check your voting location because some have changed.
