Join Eric Highers and Jonathan Yeo as they educate us about basic infrastructure and pollutant-loading concepts and share the nuances of a generally underappreciated public utility, all while showing its increasing importance within the uniquely developed environment of Newton and our changing climate.
Eric serves as the Environmental Engineer for the City of Newton, managing city compliance with state and federal regulations pertaining to stormwater discharge into the Charles River. He is regularly involved in a variety of retrofit and maintenance projects necessary for the continuing function and improvement of Newton’s historic storm drain network.
Jonathan is the part-time Stormwater Program Planner in DPW-Utilities. He had a 30 year career in water resources management with the MWRA and as Director of Water Supply Protection for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation before becoming the City’s Chief Operating Officer from 2018 through 2025. He is assisting the stormwater team on a range of programs and projects while conducting city-wide field visits on stormwater infrastructure and stream systems.
