Christmas Bird Count 2005

The 2005 Christmas Bird Count in Newton was held on December 18th. Ten determined birders were out from 4:00 AM to 6:30AM looking for owls, and spotted seven Eastern Screech Owls and a Great Horned Owl.

We had a total of 17 birders for the count during the daylight hours. Birds seen this year that were not spotted in either 2003 or 2004 included the following:

Common Merganser
American Coot
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Swamp Sparrow
Rusty Blackbird
Purple Finch
