Join Barbara Bates, Newton Conservators Director and retired Mass Audubon teacher/naturalist, for an easy ramble through Webster Woods. We’ll see what spring ephemeral flowers are in bloom and whether the wood frogs are still calling in Bare Pond, the vernal pool. Hopefully we’ll see Lady Slippers and Nodding Bellwort (aka Merrybells) at the very least. We will follow the Red trail to Bare Pond, pick up the Green trail to Cake Rock, Gooch’s Cave, the dell along Thompsonville Brook, and return via the Red trail past Cat Pond unless a very wet spring has flooded that part of the trail.

Approximately 1.5 miles with frequent stops to discuss nature and take pictures.

The trail can be rocky and muddy in places and there are one or two steep places where a trekking pole can be helpful.  Bring insect repellent and dress accordingly.

Suitable for ages 5 and up. No pets allowed.

Rain on May 10 cancels the walk and registrants will be notified by email.  If in doubt, email Barbara before 9:15 AM on May 10.

Rain date: May 17.

Trip Leader: Barbara Bates, (B.L.Bates@rcn.com)

Registration is required. Limited to 30 people.  Meeting location, directions and parking information will be emailed to all registrants.
