In May 2007, the City of Newton acquired by eminent domain the lakeshore property at 20 Rogers Street. The city had previously been in negotiations to buy the land from the owner of the property, which is adjacent to the Crystal Lake beach.
In September 2008, the city signed a purchase and sale agreement for the purchase of the shoreline portion of an adjacent property, 230 Lake Avenue. With this purchase, the City will own a contiguous lakeside path from the Crystal Lake beach to the existing parkland at Levingston Cove.
The future use of the newly acquired land remains to be determined. The Crystal Lake Task Force released a draft master plan in January 2009.
